This Charlottesville Virginia home is in a quiet wooded neighborhood. Before the renovation, the home was dominated by hallways and closed spaces. This renovation focused on getting the most out of the small footprint, accommodating the many daily activities of this busy family, and reflecting the style of the couple.

By moving the circulation to the outside of the home, the middle could be used as a core, including a well defined entry, a mechanical core, and a half-bath. It opened up sight lines between all of the rooms, and tucked away the stair to the upstairs. The livingroom gained a central area around the hearth that feels contained and cozy, while still being connected to activity of the kitchen, and a penisula between the kitchen and diningroom allows this half of the house to work as a larger eating, cooking, and homework wing.
