Climate Compass

This project is an orientation tool for a world in flux. Locating orients you in time and space with information about local impacts of sea level rise. Spatially, it locates the shoreline, nearby high ground, and other landmarks in the area. The compass is also a timeline, radiating out from the center to the outside of the circle, showing the change in elevation over the next 100 years, as well as when different types of storms and floods will start to impact the area.

Climate Compasses have been installed to date in San Francisco at the Exploratorium and Heron’s Head Ecology Center, as well as at Arts Santa Monica in Barcelona, Spain. The project was developed with support from the Bay Observatory at Exploratorium.
